Abstract
Leptospirosis is a common, acute and generalized infectious disease caused by bacteria of the genus Leptospira. Although the non-icteric form is the most common presentation, patients with the icteric form may present with symptoms of hepatorenal syndrome. Humans are infected through direct or indirect contact with infected animals. A 49-year-old male with jaundice, nausea, vomiting and disturbed oral intake was diagnosed as having leptospirosis after detecting antibody titers of 1/100, 1/100 and 1/400 against serovar Grippotyphosa, serovar Icterohaemorrhagiae and serovar Patoc strain Patoc I, respectively by microscopic agglutination test. Here, we emphasize the clinical significance of this rare infectious disease and discuss the preventive strategies against leptospirosis.
