Objective: Hydatid cyst is an important health problem for our country. In this study, we aimed to determine the radiological findings of the hydatid cyst cases detected in Antalya region and to present their epidemiological data.
Methods: Between March 2017 and March 2019, the reports containing the term “hydatid” were filtered from the radiology information system of our hospital and discharge summaries, laboratory and radiological findings of the patients were reviewed retrospectively.
Results: A total of 119 hydatid cysts were detected in 103 patients (74 female and 29 male). The mean age of the patients was 53.5±9.4 years. One or more imaging methods including ultrasonography, computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were used in the evaluation of patients. 21 of the patients (2 of which had percutaneous surgery) underwent surgical treatment. 52 of the 103 patients with hydatid disease were evaluated with indirect hemagglutination test and 27 of them were positive. 11 (44%) of the 25 seronegative patients, had type 5 lesions.
Conclusions: Hydatid disease remains important for our region, and the physicians should be informed about radiological and serological methods used for diagnosis of the disease. Planned studies are needed to raise public awareness.
