Abstract
Chronic hepatitis C is a progressive liver disease, characterized by many extrahepatic manifestations. The relationship between Sjögren's syndrome and hepatitis C virus infection was revealed first in 1992 by Haddad et al. Viral infections have long been seen as a potential cause and many viruses like the herpesviruses, and retroviruses have been blamed in the etiology of Sjögren's syndrome. Experimental models in mice have also shown the direct relationship between certain viruses and Sjögren's syndrome. Also the clinical and histological findings of primary Sjögren's syndrome were observed in some patients with chronic hepatitis C in several studies. We report a case of Sjögren's syndrome caused by hepatitis C treatment.
