Abstract
A 39-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital due to spondylodiscitis following L4-5 discectomy operation. Teicoplanin treatment was initially started and hypersensitivity reaction with maculopapular eruption, fever, leukopenia and thrombocytopenia occurred. The hypersensitivity reaction was over after the replacement of teicoplanin treatment to linezolid. A dark brown discoloration occurred on the proximal part of dorsal aspect of her tongue six weeks after the initiation of linezolid treatment. The tip, edges and anterior parts of the tongue were normal. The treatment completed in six-month period. The discoloration persisted without any considerable changes during the course of linezolid treatment. The discoloration showed rapid improvement following the discontinuation of linezolid and resolved completely in two months. In conclusion, although rare, an association of linezolid and tongue discoloration should be kept in mind. Due to rapid resolution of the discoloration after the expiration of the treatment, the therapy can be continued if it is mandatory.
