Abstract
Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF), having a high mortality rate, is a viral zoonotic infectious disease. A 53-year-old male patient referred to the outpatient clinics with the complaints of weakness, myalgia, headache and high fever, starting after a tick bite and was hospitalized. His general condition was good and he was conscious. In his physical examination, a mild tenderness was detected on the right hypochondrial region. Laboratory investigations were as follows: WBC 2400/mm3, (59% PMNL), Hb 11.6 g/dl, Hct 33.1%, PLT 67000/mm3, CRP 7.3 IU/ml, erythrocyte sedimentation rate 12/h, PTT 17.1 sec., AST 121 IU/L, ALT 93 IU/L, LDH 601 IU/L, CK 340 IU/L, GGT 126 IU/L. CCHF was considered according to clinic and laboratory findings. Empirical ribavirin treatment of ten days, was begun according to recommendation of World Health Organization. The patient recovered rapidly after ribavirin treatment. Subsequently, the CCHF polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test result was reported as positive by Ministry of Health. Recently, CCHF which has already been endemic in our country, has been observed in Elazığ province as well.
